• 4mm double pointed needles
• 1 skein Galway or Galway Highand Heathers Main Colour, 100g/200m

Gauge
20 sts and 28 rows = 4 inches/10cm in stocking stitch
K knit
K2tog knit 2 stitches together
P purl
Sl 1 slip 1
P2tog purl 2 stitches together
Psso pass slipped stitch over knitted stitch & off needle
Directions
Cuff
• Cast on 40 sts loosely.
• Divide into 10 sts per needle. Join.
• Work in contrast colour in
Make Heel
• Divide stitches: 10 on 1st needle, 20 on 2nd needle and 10 on 3rd needle. The tail/join should be located between the two needles with 10 stitches.
• Leave 20 instep stitches alone and mark.
• Work on the 10/10 stitches, facing the wrong side (the inside or purl side). Consolidate them on a single needle. You should now have 2 needles, each with 20 stitches
• R1: Sl 1, P to end of row.
• R2: Sl 1, K to end of row.
• Repeat last 2 rows until heel measures 2 inches, ending on a knit row.
Shape Heel
• R1: P13, P2tog, P1, Turn work.
• R2: Sl 1, K7, Sl 1 K1 psso, K1, Turn.
• R3: Sl 1, P8, P2tog, P1, Turn.
• R4: Sl 1, K9, Sl 1 K1 psso, K1, Turn.
• R5: Sl 1, P10, P2tog, P1, Turn.
• R6: S 1, K11, Sl 1 K1 psso, K1.
• Turn 14 stitches.
Gusset
• With right side facing, pick up & knit 10 stitches on left side of heel.
• With 2nd needle, knit across 20 sts on instep.
• With 3rd needle, pick up and knit 10 sts along right side of heel.
• Knit first 7 stitches from heel onto 3rd needle. Slip remaining 7 stitches from heel onto the beginning of first needle (54 sts; 17-20-17)
• R1: 1st needle: Knit to last 3 sts; K2tog, K1.
2nd needle: Knit.
3rd needle: K1, Sl 1 K1 psso, knit to end of needle.
• R2: Knit
• Repeat last 2 rounds to 40 sts (
• Continue even for 6½ inches measured from side of heel or to fit your foot.
• R1: 1st needle: Knit to last 3 st; k2tog, K1
2nd needle: K1, Sl 1 K1 psso, k to last 3 st; K2tog, K1.
3rd needle: K1, Sl 1 K1 psso, k to end of needle.
• R2: Knit
• Repeat last 2 rounds until 20 sts remain.
• Knit sts from 1st needle on to 3rd.
• Graft toes with kitchener stitch. Alternately, cast off both sides separately and sew them using mattress stitch.
• weave in ends & wash in Eucalan to soften them up.
