Summer Knitting Ideas: Part 2
A Diet of Small Acessories & House Projects
● lacy silk scarf for the first days of fall
I know it sounds prosaic, but it's a great opportunity to enjoy a skein of luxurious silk guilt free. Just one skein of a gorgeous silk like Fleece Artist Italian Silk or Handmaiden Silken or Silk Rumple will do the trick. All you have to do is find a lace pattern you like (flip through your books & magazines or roam the web for something you like - goodge dishcloth patterns and you'll uncover scads!) cast on a few stitches and you're off to the races! Keep in mind that laces stretches like crazy, so you can make your scarf shorter & wider than normal.
● Cotton Shopping Bags
Make some grocery bags to help save the environment. I recomend using Super10 Cotton - it's affordable, sturdy, machine washable and comes in every colour you could ever want. Shopping bags also make GREAT gifts, we've found that people LOVE them and use them constantly.

Linen Lace Market Bag
Himalaya Tote

Recycled Bag (i'd do it in yarn, plastic bags are a pain to work with)

Ideas for Summer Knitting at the Cottage Part 1
Summer is an odd time for a lot of knitters. they want to keep their hands busy but they don't want to work with wool in the heat and they aren't really inpored to make any garments.
Option 1: Knit & Crochet for Charity
If you don't know what to do but you just want to keep your hands busy consider knittng for charity. Chairty knitting is fast is also great for using up scraps and leftover yarn. Before you put your needles together check the requirements for the charity you are going to donate to: Streetknit recommends using synthetics like acrylic while Afghans for Afghans recommends using animal fibers (wool)
Afghans for Afghans

Mother Bear Project
The Mother Bear Project is a grass-roots, non-profit group dedicated to providing comfort and hope to children, primarily those affected by HIV/AIDS in emerging nations, by giving them a gift of love in the form of hand-knit and crocheted bears.
Project Linus
Project Linus works to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans.
Streetknit
Streetknit collects and donates handmade hats, scarves, mittens, socks and sweaters to the homeless of Toronto. Donations are given to Toronto outreach programs.
